If you bought a home in 2010 be sure you fill out your Homestead Exemption form and send it in to the county (HCAD.org) after January 1st, 2011. It will save you approximately 20% on your property taxes. You DO NOT automatically get the exemption until you fill out the form and send it in. Your home will be listed as “NON EXEMPT” and subject to full taxes if you don’t send the form in. There is NEVER a fee for filing this form. Anyone sending you something in the mail asking for money to do this is a scam. If you have questions about the forms, where to obtain them, etc send me an email to Dave@SanJacRealEstate.com
